It's great place for lunch. Very good menu and very quick and friendly service. Go for dragon's eye rolls ans sea food salad.

Not a fan of their calamari, tubes of squid not rings, bad stiff texture.
Rolls were fresh and ok -

I visited on Sunday evening. A small but very quaint restaurant. Their service was very fast, unlike some of the reviews on here previously.
From their expansive menu, we ordered the Oilers Roll, Dragon Eye Salmon Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Chicken Karaage, Edmonton Roll, and Blazing Unagi Roll. Everything was decent taste-wise and portions were satisfactory.
Prices were a bit higher than some of the other sushi shops, but not outrageous. I will most likely be back to sample some of the other menu items (from their list of hundreds). -

Kabuki Sushi has mind-numbingly wide selection of items on the menu; the sushi, sashimi, tempura, noodles, katsu and don buri (rice bowls), and a higher level of "exotic" variants. There's an adventure in figuring out what to order, and another adventure in consuming your catch.
A tiny space with perfect people-watching windows, Kabuki has seen the hunnybunny and I on many a date night (because of the tasty food and the geographic nearness). The food is fun, well made, and you leave knowing you did the Japanese thing well.
What I really like to do is start here and halfway through head across the street to Kyoto, which offers similar fare with a more proletarian take to the presentation. It's the best part of a soy sauce pub crawl :-) and makes for an interesting date night! -

So, I am waffling between a 3 and 4 star rating for this place. I actually think that it is quite pretty inside. Love the fake cherry blossom tree in the middle, with the lanterns glowing around. Having been in Japan, this made me nostalgic for the country. Bathroom could use some renos though. Our server was kind and prompt and friendly. However, she didn't seem to know the menu that well. Menu had a great selection of different kinds of sushi and rolls. However, seemed to be lacking in the typical appetizers and bento boxes that I would expect - no gyoza even. I noticed online there seemed to be combination menus, but we were not given them when we were seated. However, if you want sushi and rolls this is the place for you. We tried shrimp tempura, Oilers rolls, chopped scallop rolls, and unagi rolls. They came out fairly quickly. Shrimp tempura was tasty. Fresh enough shrimp, great crispy batter and nice dipping sauce. The rolls were all fine. My favourite though was the chopped scallop rolls. The scallops were plentiful and super fresh. Oiler rolls were tasty too....spicy tuna on the inside and fresh tuna on the outside. The tuna on the outside perhaps lacked some flavour, but with the sauce it carried the roll though. The unagi rolls would have been my favourite, but the eel was overcooked...and for all the rolls the rice in them wasn't quite right. It didn't seem to stick together as it should have. Prices were great though for some pretty decently filled rolls. I think with a few tweeks this could be a full and amazing restaurant. It was sad that on the night we were there, we were the only ones seated. I am not sure how it compares to Kyoto across the street, but to me just a few improvements are needed for this place to be fantastic. I definitely will go back, especially if I am seeing a show at the Garneau and find parking!
